My Encounter with death (Maut se Than Gai) By late Atal Behari Vajpayee

As a mark of tribute to our revered leader late shree Atal Behari Vajpayee ji, I have made a sincere effort to translate one of his widely acclaimed poetry and mine favorite too…
My ENCOUNTER with Death (Maut se Than Gai)
By late Atal Behari Vajpayee

I intended not to struggle,
Nor promised to meet thou,
On this turn,

Though she stood in my way,
As if Larger than life,

Dear Death, What’s thou span?
Minutes or seconds,
But Life’s a journey,
A tale of today not ‘morrow

I have lived life to its fullest,
I’ll die if wish I
Will get back..,
Why be worried… and sad?

Hey! Don’t you dare sneak-in!
Come on! Have, an upfront meeting,

Life’s cruise is oblivious of death,
Musical evenings and melodious nights,
Of course exists sorrow and joy,
Agony too… far and wide,

Love and affection day and night,
Compel, not to say against thy,

Took on challenges daring alike,
Lighted lamps in stormy nights,

Tempest trembling east and south,
Wobbly ship in nature’s mouth

However poised, to overcome thy,
Eye in eye, storm terrified!
Face to Face thou and I !!!
